The Amazing Health Benefits of Pomegranates

 In Ingredient Spotlight

Pomegranates have been celebrated across many different cultures for their amazing health benefits. Taken internally, pomegranate juice has been shown to have one of the highest sources of anti-oxidants. Pomegranates are also known to reduce plaque and cholesterol, as well as utilized as a tool against breast cancer. When topically applied, Pomegranates yield many amazing benefits!

There are two ways Pomegranates are used in skin care–one way is through extraction of the oil from the seeds using a cold press method; the other way is extracting the essence from the peel, thus, resulting in pomegranate extract.

Pomegranate Oil

Pomegranate seed oil is an amazing multi-tasking ingredient for every skin type. Pomegranate oil is a strong anti-oxidant, with anti-inflammatory properties, and is easily absorbed into the skin for deep penetration. It stimulates keratinocytes, whose sole function is to protect the skin from environmental damage. Over time, our skin’s natural protective barrier is compromised by UV radiation, pollutants, and other environmental stressors, causing pre-mature aging, pigmentation, and other negative side effects. Pomegranate oil helps build up our skin’s natural protective barrier, which essentially helps our skin stay healthy and younger looking! But that’s not all, folks! Pomegranate oil contains omega 5 fatty acids, copper, zinc, and Vitamin E that all aid in cellular regeneration, natural sun protection, and helps to restore the skin to its youthful appearance.

Pomegranate Extract

Pomegranate extract has many of the same benefits as its oil counterpart; they are just absorbed differently. Pomegranate oil can penetrate the skin deeper, so it is more beneficial to the skin at the cellular level, while the extract acts as an effective astringent and strong anti-oxidant to help repair the skin’s natural protective barrier from the surface.
